Kobe Bryant’s retirement isn’t that far in the rearview simply because the NBA Playoffs are running strong right now. Nike’s still paying tribute to Bryant with their ‘Muse’ Pack and, on Tuesday, they shared official pics and release info for the third pair of the trio, designed by no one other than CEO Mark Parker. Parker’s pair being the last colorway to be revealed is fitting since he worked with Eric Avar and Tinker Hatfield on the Huarache 2K4, the first Nike shoe Kobe wore after signing. Parker adding his take on the Mamba’s last court shoe brings everything full circle.
Of course, Kobe’s kicks have always been about testing the norms and expanding through innovation, traits inspired by his relationship with Parker. “A lot of times when it seems to be truly risky,” Bryant said, “I see reason in it and I understand how I can benefit, we’ll go. And the rest of the industry can follow.” Their shared vision is what has keep the Laker great’s line at the forefront of basketball footwear.
The Kobe 11 ‘Mark Parker’ releases next Thursday, May 26, on Nike SNKRS, Nike.com, and select Nike Basketball retailers worldwide.
