Nike hired Inspector Gadget for the Air Pressure, I’m sure of it. In order to compete with Reebok’s pump-action kicks back in the late ’80s, the Pressure was designed to up the ante with pump molded ankles complete with plastic strap and a carrying pack that looks something like what a Ghostbuster would sport in his spare time. Did they work? I was too poor back then to try them, but I intend to find out now.

Funky technology aside, the Pressures are a true sneaker nerd’s shoe. Obscure, rare, and never retroed. Nike pulled out all the stops in the recreation of the original, along with the “Jug of Shoes” carrying case and hand pump. Chances are these might never come out of the vault again, so if you’re old enough to remember these, you may consider shelling out the money for them. No pressure. Ha! Sorry.

The Nike Air Pressure releases Thursday, January 14 at 10 a.m. EST via Nike’s SNKRS app. Retail is $300.
