No more sketches, the real deal Nike KD 8 is here. Nike’s latest in Kevin Durant’s signature line is a sharp contrast to everything we imagined a low top basketball shoe to be and the ‘July 4th’ colorway is one of the first colorways set to release.
The aggressively-shaped pods in the forefoot resemble running shoes treading, but the use of Flywire and the introduction of Flyweave will provide superior lockdown even in the absence of a forefoot strap. By using Flyweave instead of the standard prints of stars and stripes, Nike’s able to still use the same patriotic colors, but utilized in something a little different than what buyers have come to expect for Independence Day releases.
The patterns and splashes of color are just low-key enough to be able to resemble stars, stripes, fireworks, and all that’s great about the U.S. that stops short of putting Hacksaw Jim Duggan’s visage on the tongue. Well played, KD
The Nike KD 8 ‘July 4th’ releases June 27 in advance of Independence Day for a retail price of $180. Beginning today, June 23, the KD 8 is also up for customization on NIKEiD.
